Electricity supply in different parts of Dhaka city remained suspended from dawn-to-dusk on Friday and Saturday because of maintenance work of the transmission line.
According to a Power Grid Company of Bangladesh statement, service work will be conducted from 6:00am to 6:00pm on both days in Shiddhirganj-Ulon and Haripur-Maniknagar lines under the Shiddhirganj-Maniknagar transmission line construction project.
The areas which will affected by the work on Friday are Lalmatia, Dhanmondi, Central Road, Kanthalbagan, Tejturibazar, Indira Road, Sonargaon Road, Gausia Market, Tejgaon Industrial Road, Moghbazar, Nayatola, Modhubagh, Shahbagh, Kakrail, Shiddheswari, Segunbagicha, Topkhana Road, Ramna and Gulistan.
The other areas to be out of power supply on both Friday and Saturday are Meradia, Banasri, Sipahibagh, Basabo, Rajarbagh, Ahammadbagh, Manda, Uttar Madartek, Goran, Sabujbagh, Atish Dipangkar Road, Mugda, Manikdia, Paikdia, both sides of the Madartek main road, Kalibari, Kacharipara, Adarshapara, Sarkarpara, Nandipara, Trimohoni, Dakskingaon, east side of Maniknagar Biswaroad, City Palli, Maniknagar Pukurpar and adjoining areas.
On Saturday Narinda Road, Hatkhola, Shah Shaheb Lane, Lalmohon Shaha Street, Dholaikhal, Syedabad, Jatrabari, KN Das Lane, Swamibagh, Maniknagar, Dhupkhola, Gendaria, Namapara, Gopibagh, Dhakeswari Road, Water Works and adjoining areas will be out of power.
Moreover, France Road, Nazirabazar, Salimullah Medical College and Mitford Hospital, Wise Ghat, Sadarghat, Simson Road, Patuatuli Lane, Armanian Street, AC and DC Roy Road, Aga Nabab Deuri, BK Roy Lane, Chhoto Katra, Champatoli, Swoarighat, Islampur, Zindabahar, Imamganj, Moulvibazar, Chawk Circular Road, Kamalbagh area, North Brook Hall Road, Tanti Bazar, Shakhari Bazar, Banglabazar, Forashganj, Chawbazar, Bakshibazar, Umesh Dutta Lane, IG Gate and the adjacent areas will also be out of power connection on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the cabinet purchase committee Thursday approved seven proposals including two 50 megawatt (MW) peaking power plants at a cost of around Tk 6.32 billion.
The approval was given at a meeting chaired by Finance Minister AMA Muhith at the Cabinet Division.
Furnace oil-fired Shantahar 50MW plant and Katakhali 50MW plant will be set up by Dongfang Electric Corporation of China.
Shantahar plant will cost Tk 3.1994 billion while Katakhali plant about Tk 3.1187 billion. The cabinet committee also approved procurement of 0.1 million tonnes of wheat and 30,000 tonnes of boiled Basmati rice.
The Food Department will procure 50,000 tonnes of wheat through M/S Honey B Private Limited at US$ 244.35 per tonne.
Another 50,000 tonnes of wheat would be procured through M/S Alam Trading Company at US$ 221.35 per tonne.
However, 30,000 tonnes of boiled Basmati rice would be procured through M/S Indo Sino Trade and its local agent M/S Zahara Grains at US$ 467.92 per tonne.
The meeting also approved the addendum of the consultation farm for the construction of Dopdopia Bridge on Barisal-Patuakhali highway (2nd revised) under the financial assistance of Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED).
Kuwait Consulting Investment Company in association with ACE Egypt and DDC Bangladesh were given the consultancy at revised rate of Tk 149.2 million from Tk 87.9 million.
A proposal for appointment of consultants for Technical Feasibility Studies and Detailed Design for Coastal Embankment Improvement Programme (CEIP) under the project of 'Emergency 2007 Cyclone Recovery & Restoration Project (ECRRP) involving Tk 114.4 million was also approved at the meeting.
Consultant Engineering Services India Private Limited is the lead
farm with DEV Consultant Limited Bangladesh, Design Planning and Management Consultant of Bangladesh and Kranti Associated Limited Bangladesh were awarded the consultancy.
Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury, Water Resources Minister Ramesh Chandra Sen and PM's Adviser Taufiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury attended the meeting.
